PHOTOGRAPHER
Abby Benedict
Most photographers will say that they have always been a photographer. That they received a camera in childhood, and the rest was history. Well, not for me! I didn't touch a camera until I became a mother... and it wasn't until then that I realized the significance of only possessing one picture from my own childhood. I don't have any photos that tell my daughter the story of her mother's life - the chubby cheeks I may have had as a baby, what my smile looked like after I lost my first tooth. Maybe that's what makes me so passionate about capturing the stories of other people - knowing I'm providing them a tangible memory of their blessed life - a photograph. It's a tremendously happy feeling. I've been hooked since the moment I finally picked up a camera nearly six years ago - with every click, I know I'm documenting a moment never to be forgotten. It's magical for me, plain and simple.
When I became a mother, I wanted to capture EVERY MOMENT of Annabelle's life - not just for me, not just for her - but for her own children someday. I want them to know the story of their mother. The moments of her life, big or small, that deserve to be remembered. Photographs hold the story of our lives and the story of our families - who we are, where we come from and a glimpse of what the future might hold. I'm lucky enough to have a few photographs of family members who have long ago passed, but I absolutely treasure the feeling of connectedness that comes over me when I look into their faces from years ago. Their memory is kept alive for me in photographs.
I love it when I'm given an opportunity to tell a story with portraits! I want to capture how blessed your life is because I'm a sentimental soul. I believe each age and stage of childhood is worth remembering. I love photographing families and little ones as they make their way through life together. The toothy grins, the freckled faces, the hugs and kisses between mom and baby. The bookworm and her favorite book, the superhero and his cape, the baby on her first birthday, the brother and sister who can't stop giggling - each moment, for however long it lasts, is precious. And I love knowing that years from now, you will hold a photograph in your hand and be taken back to the very moment it was captured.
Clients often ask me how I came up with the name for my business. Well, my last name is Benedict, and it means "blessing." Life is such a blessing in every way - and I intend to remember and document every moment. If you're interested in capturing your blessed life and having memories to hold on to, then please contact me and I will be thrilled to capture you and your sweetest little blessings, just as they are right now. Children change so quickly! How will you remember?
When I'm not toting my camera around, I like to read, treasure hunt for antiques, get absorbed in DIY projects., listen to music, watch movies and make lemonade. :)
Much love!
Abby
